Purpose

The University of Delaware has a strong commitment to faculty engagement and support in effective teaching. In 1975, the Faculty Senate established the Center for Teaching Effectiveness (CTE) to recognize that Delaware is a teaching-oriented university with a strong academic reputation. The Center promotes the enhancement of learning and teaching at the University. The Center's primary goals are to:

CTE is a University-wide unit that supports faculty, administrators, graduate students, and staff in their instructional activities. Specifically, the Center provides a range of free and confidential instructional services to help all members of UD's teaching community enhance the teaching and learning process. The Center's services reflect the multiple ways in which teaching and learning can be enriched. Services include but are not limited to:

CTE organizes conferences for first-time graduate teaching assistants (TAs); coordinates teaching conferences, workshop sessions, and colloquia, such as the Junior Faculty Network; publishes and disseminates materials on instructional practices and student learning; serves as a liaison with University committees, task forces, and units involved in instructional support; and administers, in coordination with other units, an annual grant program for instructional enrichment.

The Center is funded by the Office of the Provost and is a unit within the Office of Undergraduate Studies.
